Question
can you help me with 1? It will be awesome, if I can get help on 2.. too. I kind of stuck thanks
This is a simple & fracional distillation lab btw
POST-LAB QUESTIONS: 1) Consider the fractionating column (either packed or unpacked) in the fractional distillation setup. State oOne advantage if the length of this fractionating column was doubled. State two disadvantages if the length of this fractionating column was doubled Why does one observe a drastic drop in the temperature during a distillation process of a binary mixture, after almost one liquid component has been distilled over? Explain 2)

Answer #1

If the length of the fractionating column was doubled then the purity of the distillate will be double because double the number of theoretical plates in the new double length fractionating column. Hence presence of more plates means better separation .

If the length of the fractionating column was doubled then the time of separation will increases

If the length of the fractionating column was doubled then it consumes more energy in separation process.
