A four-stroke petrol engine has a total swept volume of 2.44 litres distributed over 4 cylinders, each cylinder with a clearance volume of 0.092 litres. Assume the corresponding ideal thermodynamic cycle and the following start conditions to calculate the mass of air in a single cylinder. Assume dry air and ignore the mass of the fuel. •CV of air: 0.718 kJ/ (kg K). •Cp of air: 1.005 kJ/ (kg K). •Temperature at intake: 292 K. •pressure at intake: 0.935 bar. Give the answer in grams, rounded to the nearest +- 0.01 g.

(8 Marks) (b) A two-cylinder petrol engine has a swept volume of 2500 cm, and the clearance volume in each cylinder is 70 cm. Calculate the air standard cycle efficiency. If the air intake conditions are 1.1 bar and 26°C, and the maximum cycle temperature is 1460°C, calculate the mean effective pressure based on the air standard cycle. [Cv of air = 0.718 kJ/kg.K; R of air = 287 J/kg.K; y of air = 1.4] (12 Marks)
