Question

Question 1 (a) Consider an electrically neutral uniform conducting medium with con- ductivity ơ, permittivity E and permeability , o, e and are indepen- dent of space and time coordinates but may depend on frequency. Write down Maxwells equations for this medium. Then, by decoupling these equations, show that E and B each satisfy a wave equation. Explain the critical steps in your solution. (b) Write down the general form for a plane wave of angular frequency w travelling in the z-direction through the conductor. State the nature of all symbols that you introduce. Then show that these waves must have a complex wave vector given by k2-lew2 + μου
