If heat is taken during the reaction then the process is said to be endothermic. In an endothermic reaction the system absorbs heat from the surrounding and we enthalpy of the reaction is positive, as system is gaining heat from the surrounding.

If the temperature of the system goes down or decreases in a reaction process then, heat is given off to the surrounding by the system. Now enthalpy of reaction is negative. the reaction is said to be endothermic reaction and loss of heat energy from the system takes place.

So, we can say that in an endothermic reaction,heat is taken by the system from the surrounding and temperature of the system goes up.
