78% of all the transmission losses (resistive losses) occurs on the overhead line. (Cited from the article ‘Management of network losses’ written by Per Norberg on behalf of Study Committee C1 and published in the CIGRE conference in August 2017.) The cost of all the resistive losses is eventually passed down to the end consumers of electricity through network tariff. Copper industry used to lobby the government to replace the overhead lines with copper material instead of aluminum. Is this a good solution? If you are an electrical engineer, what solutions would you propose to reduce the transmission losses? Explain two cost-efficient solutions
