Transfer station is a building or area in which the waste collected by local small vehicles is dumped. This waste is of low density and have many type of waste which needs to be seperated for effective disposal. All this process is done at transfer station. Need of transfer station is discussed as below:-

1. Opportunity to collect the waste at one place and then disposing it to proper place. It will be economical to collect waste at one place and then dump it.

2. Opportunity to increase density of waste. In transfer station the waste is compacted as possible and then dumped with help of large cargo.

3. Opportunity of Separating the different type of waste:- There may be biodegradable or hazardous or medical waste in the whole waste collected, which needs to be seperated so that dumped in different way as per requirement.Illegal waste can also be removed from site.

4. Reduction in collection vehicle maintenance cost:- Collectuon vehicles are to move on paved roads only not on landfills. This will decrease the mainenance cost of collection vehicle.

5. Increase efficiency of dumping with help of minimum number of dumping vehicles.

6. It can be used as recycling station for recycling the waste, special in low economy countries.
