You need to design a bolted joint to fix a pair of circular solid flanges together using 12 X M16 bolts and appropriate washer(s) equally spaced on 720mm diameter. Assume the outside diameter of the flange is 750mm. The thickness for both flanges is 20mm. The fit of the bolted joint assembly is H11/c11.

1. Draw a cross sectional view of the bolted joint assembly for a portion of the pair of circular flanges.

2. Determine the maximum allowable positional tolerance for each part of the bolted assembly.

3. Draw and dimension one solid flange only showinh the appropriate dimensions together with the limts of size, geometrical tolerance and its datum.

  • Tolerance values are taken from ASME standard.
