Answer #1

Vp*Vg=c^2

Vg=c^2/Vp=9*10^16/9.5=9.47*10^15 m/s

In non dispersive frame

Vp=Vg

Vg=9.5m/s

    Problem 10. It can be shown that a wave in water of depth h has dispersion relation dº = gk tanh (kh), where g is the gravitational acceleration. 1. In shallow water (kh < 1), show that the phase and group velocities are identical, and Op = vg = Vgh. 2. In deep water (kh > 1), show that the group velocity is half the phase velocity. Hint: work with approximate formulas for tanh (x) at x < 1 and...

    A progressive wave of height η1 = 0.05 m and wave length λ1 = 0.1 m is generated at r1 = 0.5 m away the center of a pond with a constant water depth of h = 2 m. As the waves propagate away from the origin (where they are generated), they become gravity–capillary waves. The dispersion relation of gravity-capillary waves in deep water is given as follows: where σ ′ = 0.073 N/m is the surface tension for air–water...
