Can Amazon replicate its U.S. success in China? If so / If not, to what extent? Explain.
Part B: Do cultural dimensions play a part in global success? If so / If not, to what extent? Explain.
answer-
1- I think Amazon would not be able to replicate its US success in China because In China, Amazon faces even tougher trials competing with Alibaba in an environment hostile to foreign companies. Where Flipkart’s focus on commerce has left Amazon room to peddle its other offerings, Alibaba has matched and often beaten Amazon’s portfolio diversification. Before Amazon acquired Whole Foods, Alibaba had already begun its expansion into brick-and-mortar retail. Alibaba’s cloud services division, AliCloud, rivals Amazon’s AWS.
if there is no such competition from Alibaba then i think Amazon would be successful but what one can do if there is a great rival present in China against Amazon.
2- yes, dimesions of culture play a part in global success at great extent. Culture and its dimensions are different in each country. The culture barriers like communication issues, power issues, social issues can arise because company is unable to adapt to culture of the country in which it operates. if Amazon does not provide products or services according to the need of society and culture in which people live in China then it would not be able to get global success.
in some countries power distance is low or some has high like if China people opposes people having too much power in organization and Amazon is showing high power then employees and customers will not respond well in China.also if Amazon believes in Masculanity and operate in country like China or India where females are also have been equaled as Men then it would face legal as well as social issues in its business.
so to operate in another diffferent countries, company has to know culture and its dimensions very well to get success.
