Question

The average kinetic energy of the molecules in a gas sample depends only on the temperature,...

The average kinetic energy of the molecules in a gas sample depends only on the temperature, T. But given the same kinetic energies, a lighter molecule will move faster than a heavier molecule.R=8.314 J/(mol·K) and ℳ is molar mass in kilograms per mole. Note that a joule is the same as a kg·m2/s2.What is the rms speed of Cl2 molecules at 415 K? What is the rms speed of He atoms at 415 K?

I could'nt get the whole question but im responding on the basis what i understand from question.

First of all why the lighter molecule move faster than heavier one when they both have same kinetic energy, it is just because Average kinetic energy is equal to the sum of kinetic energy of all molecules divided by no. of molecules present .

By formula which is depwnds upon T.

But every kinetic energy also depends upon the mass andvthe velocity of particle.

Since if both molecules(lighter and heavier) have same kinetic energy than but difference mass so to maintain the ratio itbis necessary that lighter have higher velocity and heavier have lesser velocity....explanation by mathematics in pic.where r11〉M2 mo ale cules i 5 Same 2. 2- 2 2 Se nou 2 SpSecon part......
