A body of mass m1=1kg is connected to an infinite number of masses by means of an infinite number of ropes according to the sketch shown below.

A measurement show that the rope force in S1 is 5N,that in S2 is 2.5N ,and so on with the rope force halved in each case.

a) Determine the mass m5.

b) What is the acceleration a?

c) Now reverse the ratio of the rope forces. First rope in second rope 2N.Third rope 4N etc. How large is now?

    3. Figure 3 shows the symmetric hook of a hoist to lift a package of weight G (width 2a). The hook consists of a plate and two tongs to hold the package by means of friction developed between the package and the tongs (coefficient of static friction Ho). The hook (own weight Go) is held by a central rope (force So). Two ropes (respective forces Si and S2) are connected at a right angle (90°) to the two tongs in...

Consider the system of two masses connected by weightless strings on the right: A box of mass m1=1kg sits on an inclined, frictionless surface with an angle of a = 30 degrees. A second mass hangs from the ceiling with an angle of q = 30 degrees. A string parallel to the inclined surface connects both masses. The system is in equilibrium and does not move. 1) Draw a free body diagram of mass 1 and mass 2 and label...

Need help with the whole problem. Thank you! Even if the problem comes with a figure, draw your own set-up. Identify the key points on your drawing: those would be the center of the objects, or the knots of the ropes - if ropes are connected to each other. Once you identified those points place an xy system of coordinators in each of them, so that one of the axis points in the direction of the motion, or in the...
