Few points regarding bond line structures of organic compounds:

  • In a bond line drawing (structure) of an organic compound, the bonds are represent in the form of lines. Between two atoms, a single bond is drawn as a single line, a double bond as two lines and a triple bond as three lines.
  • A bond between any atom and a H atom is always a single bond and is not generally shown.
  • Carbon atoms are generally not written as C. It is understood that every end of a bond is C atom if no letter representing a particular atom is not written.
  • If any C atom does not have four bonds bonded to it it is understood that the remaining valency of each carbon atom is satisfied by H atoms. It is generally not written in drawing the structure.
