Question

7. [15 points] Suppose that X is a uniform RV on the interval [-1, 1] and Y is a RV defined by (a) What are the means and variances of X and Y? (b) What is the correlation coefficient for X and Y? In particular, are they uncorrelated? (c) Without calculating anything further, can you argue about whether X and Y are in- dependent? I dont want you to calculate anything for this part because the strange p between the RVs means that we need some extra tools (i.e, delta functions) to rigorously test independence.
