To achieve good combustion, air (oxygen) must be present and thoroughly mixed with fuel (waste) to produce CO2 and H2O. During combustion, 79% of inert Nitrogen interferes with combustion process. Thus a good combustion do require excess air beyond stoichiometric amount of air (oxygen). Excess air is also used for incinerator temperature control since it absorbs heat from the combustion reaction! 1900 lbs/hr of a waste mixture of 35% Benzene, 60% Toluene and 5% water is incinerated with 35% excess air. Determine (a) the heat release, and (b) % by volume of each component in the flue gas.
