Phenol dissociates into the phenoxide anion and H+ cation. The phenoxide ion (C6H5O-) is resonance stabilied. Due to the stability of the conjugate base, phenol is acidic in nature. The resonance structure of phenoxide ion is given below.

:0; I 11 Overall Resonance hybridas we can see, there are 4 resonance structure of the phenoxide ion. The resonance hybrid is a combination of all the canonical forms. In the resonance hybrid C-O is a partial double bond as one of the resonance structures has C-O (single bond) while the rest have C=O (double bond).
