as the length of the carbon chain increases , the molecular weight of the compound increases and as a result the london dispersion forces also increases in the molecule.

this forces create a tension on the surface of the molecule and this is called the surface tension and this increases as the length of the carbon chain increases.

so , the surface tension ranking of the above given compounds become

decane > octane > hexane > pentane
