Hi,
Would someone mind helping me with the following organic
chemistry question.
Please justify/explain your answer. Thank
you!

QUESTION 42.
For each of the following reactions, circle the major
product. Provide a brief explanation for the preferred
regiochemistry of addition in each reaction.
Solution :
A) Hydration of alkene is an example of markonikoff reaction. This reaction is completed via rearrangement and hence form product (II) as most stable.
B) Hydroboration-oxidation reaction is an example of antimorkonikoff addition where OH group adds on terminal carbon gives rise to produces product (I) .
C) Mercurization followed by reduction is an example of markonikoff type addition in which OH group adds to the double bonded carbon which bears lesser number of hydrogens. Thus, product (III) is more stable.
