The preparation of an aqueous solution is described in the table below. For this solution, write the chemical formulas of the major species present at equilibrium. You can leave out water itself.

Write the chemical formulas of the species that will act as acids in the 'acids' row, the formulas of the species that will act as bases in the 'bases' row, and the formulas of the species that will act as neither acids nor bases in the 'other' row.

You will find it useful to keep in mind that NH3 is a weak base.

Given is a reaction between weak base NH3 and strong acid HNO3 the reaction occurs as:

HNO3 + NH3 ----- NH4+ + NO2-

Initailly 0.5 M 0.5 M 0 0

At eqill. 0 0 0.5M 0.5 M

As both reagents have equal moles (i.e. 0.5 M) hence there both are limiting reagents hence products are formed according to both reagents

Hence 0.5 M NH4+ and 0.5 M NO2- are formed where NH4+ is conjucate acid of NH3 and NO2- is conjucate base of HNO3

as both reagents are consumed, non of reagents is not left at equillibrium hence reagents acting as acids bases and others are,

Acids ------ NH4+

Others ------ NO2-
