Answer #1

Cation is formed by removing electrons from an element.
Anion is formed by adding electrons to an element.

The cation is    X+2
Number of electrons present in cation = 36 electrons.

Since this is cation, electrons must be removed from X
This is a divalent cation, so, two electrons must be removed from X.

Hence, number of electrons present in element X = 36 + 2 = 38

The element which has 38 electrons in its ground state = Sr

Name of the element = Strontium

PART- B
The cation is    X–
Number of electrons present in anion = 36 electrons.

Since this is anion, electrons must be added to X
This is a mono-valent anion, so, one electron must be added to X.

Hence, number of electrons present in element X = 36 – 1 = 35

The element which has 35 electrons in its ground state = Br

Name of the element = Bromine
