Answer #1

The VSEPR theory (Valence Shell Electron Pair Repulsion theory) predicts the shape of a molecule or ion on the basis of minimum electrostatic repulsion between negativly charged electrons in the valence shell of the central atom.

According to VSEPR theory all the valence shell electron pairs (bonding and non bonding) are oriented in space around the central atom as part apart as possible to minimize repulsion. It further assumed lone pairs repel stronger than bond pairs. The spatial distribution of the bond pairs now determines the gross shape of the molecules..

With the help of VSEPR theory we determine the shape and gerometry of the following molecules. Please go through the uploaded pictures.
