A chemical bond is a permanent attraction between molecules, ions or atoms which allows the formation of chemical compounds.

Fundamentals

A type of chemical bond which includes the electrostatic attraction between oppositely charged ions is called ionic bond.

A type of chemical bond which includes the sharing of electron pairs between atoms is called covalent bond.

In periodic table, the atoms iron, sodium and manganese are metals. The atoms oxygen, nitrogen and chlorine are non-metals.

Thus, based on the position of these atoms in periodic table, the bond formed between the pairs FeO{\rm{Fe}} - {\rm{O}} , NaN{\rm{Na}} - {\rm{N}} and MnCl{\rm{Mn}} - {\rm{Cl}} is ionic bond.

The covalent bond formed between SS{\rm{S}} - {\rm{S}} and ClCl{\rm{Cl}} - {\rm{Cl}} are non-polar covalent bond.

The covalent bond formed between OF{\rm{O}} - {\rm{F}} , PBr{\rm{P}} - {\rm{Br}} and SI{\rm{S}} - {\rm{I}} are polar covalent bond.
