At low conversions the reaction rate can be expressed as
Partial pressures: Pp = propanaldehyde, Ph = hydrogen, Pa = propyl alcohol
You may assume that (i) hydrogen adsorbs dissociatively and (ii) the overall reaction is irreversible. It is suggested that the rate limiting step is the chemisorption of propionaldehyde. Using Langmuir-Hinshelwood (Hougen-Watson) approaches show that this is consistent with the above kinetic equation.
