There are many software applications and programming language that supports regular expression but I favor PowerGREP the most. Programmers can save a lot of time and effort by using this tool. You can often accomplish with a single regular expression in one or a few lines of code what would otherwise take dozens or hundreds. This software can be used by a normal person as well. It can be used in powerful search and replace operations to quickly make changes across large numbers of files.

PowerGREP can be used to scans text, Word, Excel, PDF, and ZIP files. Its regular expression support is unmatched (this is the same company that publishes the clever and unique RegexBuddy programming tool). Other important features include batch replace, saved configurations, sectioning, searching in file names, multiple root folders, statistics, and backup/undo. MOST IMPORTANTLY this was the only search and replace tool that offered effective previewing of found results in context. The built-in editor shows line numbers, results, and surrounding text, and does it all with syntax highlighting. The user interface is beautiful and online help is excellent.

The software is very easy to install. You have to activate the license after installing the software. It can be used over multiple platforms like Linux, Windows, etc. All of the PowerGREP features can be used through both its rich graphical user interface (GUI) as well as via the command line. PowerGREP's regular expression engine is fully compatible with popular regex flavors such as those used by Perl, Java and the .NET framework.

Being a student, I have been able to utilize this tool to save my time and effort in the best possible way. I think any person can use this software because of its user-oriented approach.
