Question

retv 3) (30 points) A he 60 ft in diameter with a draw off line 1 ft in diameter. This liquid is to be transferred to a standard railway tank car (capacity 30,000 gal). For safety reasons, the maximum flow rate to fill the rail car is 800 avy, viscous liquid produced as a byproduct of sugar refining is to be stored in a tank gal/min. The storage tank is located 40 ft higher than the tank car. The density of the liquid is 1.286 g/cm3 and its viscosity is 56.7 centi-Poise. The length of the line from the storage tank to the tank car is 100 m. A) Determine the Re for the maximum safe flow in the pipe. B) Compare the maximum safe velocity to the velocity predicted by both the Bernoulli equation and the Hagen-Poiseuille equation. C) Based on this comparison explain if a pump will be needed to move this amount of liquid.
