Answer #1

Correct option= (c) = the volume decreases.

Explanation:

For solving this type of problem, you must know the Le-Chattelier's principle.

Le-Chattelier's principle tells that " If the equilibrium of system is disturbed by changing the conditions, then equilibrium shift to counteract the change ".

So now we write the given equation

CH4 + H2O + 206KJ <------------> CO + 3H2

When we increase partial pressure of CH4 increased , the equilibrium is disturbed. Then the system is shift that direction where the partial pressure of CH4 is decreased ( means CH4 is consumed) to reestablish the equilibrium. So system will shift right side to decrease the pressure of CH4 for reestablishing the equilibrium.

So option a is incorrect.

When we decrease the partial pressure of CO , the equilibrium is disturbed. So system will shift that direction where the partial pressure of CO increased ( means CO is formed) . This means system will shift right side for reestablishing equilibrium.

So option b is incorrect.

When the volume is decreased, number of mole in the system is increased. So equilibrium is disturbed. Then the system will shift that direction when we have less number of mole. Since in given reaction, reaction side have 2 mole and product side have 4 mole. So system will shift left side on decreasing the volume for reestablishing the equilibrium.

So option C is correct.

Since reaction needs heat. So reaction is endothermic. When we increase the temperature, the equilibrium is disturbed. Then system will shift that direction where the temperature is decreased . This means system will shift right side to reestablish the equilibrium.

Important point:

For endothermic reaction:

If Temperature is increased, system will shift right side for reestablishing equilibrium.

If the temperature is decreased, system will shift left side for reestablishing equilibrium.

For exothermic reaction :

If temperature is increased, system will shift left side for reestablishing equilibrium.

If temperature is decreased, system will shift right for reestablishing equilibrium.

So option d is incorrect .

So correct option= (c)
