Distance is the total length of the path travelled by a body.

Displacement is the shortest distance between initial and final positions of a body.

In any situation displacement \leq distance

when body travels in straight line witout changin direction of motion displacement=distance

hence Distance and displacement have different values, unless the object is travelling in a straight line.
