C(Y) = Y

MC (Y) = 1

P (Y) = 9 - Y

Therefore

TR = PY

TR = Y (9 - Y)

TR = 9Y - Y2

MR = d (TR) / dy

MR = 9 - 2Y

Thus

MC = MR

1 = 9 - 2Y

2Y = 9 - 1

2Y = 8

Y = 8/2

Y = 4

Therefore the number of pies he will produce will be 4.
