Two sinusoidal waves, identical except for phase, travel in the same direction along a string, producing a net wave
y´(x, t) = (3.50 mm) sin(14.0x - 3.50t + 0.840 rad),
with x in meters and t in seconds. What are (a) the wavelength λ of the two waves, (b) the phase difference between them, and (c) their amplitude ym?

Answer #1

A)

Wavelength, lambda = 2 pi/14 = 0.45 m

B)

Phase difference, phi = 2 x 0.84 = 1.68 rad

C)

2 ym cos(0.84) = 3.5

Amplitude, ym = 2.62 mm
