Why would an enterprise choose to use tapes for backups rather than hard drives? Do you think that organizations using tapes will likely be changing their strategy in the near future or can you think of a compelling reason for them to continue to use tape? Would SSDs be a good solution for backup systems?

if we compare hard drives with tapes for backup than the hard drive will lead but there are certain points to be considered if an organisation , than it needs a high storage , which is offered by both but the fact is tapes is much more than hard drives in terms of storage as tape is an array of hard drive, an organisation can save upto 6.75 tb in a single tape.and for long term data storage tapes are preferably better , as tapes are only used for data storage .. hard drives are vulnerable to head crash.

in coming future the orgainsation will definately change from tapes to another better , more efficient and cheap storage device. the tape maintance is a big issue , it has to be kept in a place where dust cant enter into its cartirage. although this is not difficult but time consuming, it has many disadvantages but after being an old tech. the data can be stored for a long time and is preffered by organistaions, also delivers high storage capacity which i think might be a compelling reason for now, but in near future it depends upon the technological advancements.

ssd stands for solid state drive, is an advanced technology, so it is not vulnerable to any type of head crash, there are also unaffected by magnets , which proves it much more better than hard disk drives but power failure can lead to data corruption, in solid state drive the life span of each memory block is limited to certain number of write. cycles, but the disadvantage remains the same it is also not good for long term data storage. so it is a good option for backup data but not for a long time, so it is definately not suitable for large organisations to store data for long time.
