Briefly describe a few key applications of travel demand forecasting. Discuss why you think travel demand forecasting is considered useful for these applications.
Travel demand forecasting is the estimation of number of vehicles or people who will use a proposed project or transportation facility. Few applications of travel demand forcasting are described as below.
1. Prepration of transportaion policy and planning:- In this application the size and characteristics of infrastructure are decided on the basis of travel demand. for example in a city traffic is high therefore there is need of by pass to avoid entry of vehicles going to other city to enter the city concerned. The size of by pass i.e. no. Of lanes are decided on the basis of travel demand.
2. Checking financial viability :- In this application financial aspect of the project is checked. Like at any new road a toll or tolls is/are situated which recover the cost of roads. Travel demand will help to forecast the return period of the expenses in construction of roads.
3. Environmental impact :- Effect of providing any facility in an area attracting travellers will be there on environment surrounding that facility. More will be traffic more will be pollution in that area . Therefore environment parameters are checked before proposing any transportation facility in an area.
Travel demand forecasting is considered useful for all the discussed applications as for each point discussed above number of vehicles who will use facility are must to know. Before planning and designing any transportation facility in an area number of vehicles that will use that facility must be known so that size of facility can be decided, financial viability can be checked and environmental aspects may be analysed.

3) Let's think about how we might use causal forecasting in other applications. You are the manager of Starbucks in South Florida. Other than price, identify 2 other potential independent variables that affect the demand for Starbuck's products, and then justify your answer briefly! a) independent variable 1: Justification: b) independent variable 2: Justification:
4. You will now think of some real-life applications for statistical learning. (a) Describe three real-life applications in which classification might be useful. Describe the response, as well as the predictors. Is the goal of each application inference or prediction? Explain your answer. (b) Describe three real-life applications in which regression might be useful. Describe the response, as well as the predictors. Is the goal of each application inference or prediction? Explain your answer. (c) Describe three real-life applications in...

1. Describe the phases and key characteristics of business cycles. Then explain where you think we are in the business cycle right now and why. 2. Explain how we measure economic growth and discuss three specific things that government could do to improve economic growth in the long run
Consider some of the forecasting examples you have brought up in earlier topics. Describe the key differences between simulation models and the forecasting model covered earlier in the course. Outline how the approach to solving this problem would differ in terms of applying and computing/solving the models.

1. in about 50 words comment three distinct aspects of the art/science of forecasting. 2. Describe briefly 3 distinct business scenarios for which quantitative forecasting techniques would probe useful. 4. describe 3 diatinct business decision making scenarios for which linear programming can be used effectively. for each one explain why it is a good application od linear programming. 5. discuss 2 distinct strong points ans two distincts weak points of linear programming (not the excel software) as an analysis tool...
Discuss the process of linearization and why you think it is or is not useful. How would you deal with erroneous or “poor” data points when presenting data to fellow scientist?
Why do you think virtualization has become so popular? Discuss when and where you think virtualization would be useful, as well as cost efficient.
