A and B are two unknown elemental gases in two separate containers. A has a higher molar mass than B . Which of the following statements is true?

a)
The average kinetic energy of A is greater than B

b)
If A and B are at the same temperature, urms,A = urms,B

c)
If A and B are at the same temperature, urms,A > urms,B

Answer #1

Avg Kinetic energy = 3 * K * T / 2

K is Boltzmann constant, T is temperature in Kelvin.

Thus, Avg KE is dependent on temperature.

In given scenario, temperature is same.

So,

A and B are at the same temperature, the average kinetic energy of A = the average kinetic energy of B
