Williamson ether synthesis is the process in which aromatic alcohol is converted into ether by reaction of base (K2CO3) and then with sec. or tertiary alkyl halide (R-X) ;

Thus equation for Williamson ether synthesis is ;

Ar-OH >>>>1) K2CO3 ; 2) R-X >>>> Ar-O-R (ether)
