Cost of discount pass per month=$30.

Toll for bridge without discount pass(normally)=$5.

Toll for bridge with discount pass(who purchased the discount pass)=$3.5.

Let the total number of times in a month the bridge must be crossed with or without the monthly discount price be n.

Also, the total monthly cost without purchasing the discount pass= Total monthly cost with purchasing the discount pass.

This implies, n multiplied by $5 = (n multiplied by $3.5) + $30.

That is, n*5=(n*3.5)+30.

This implies, n*5-n*3.5=30. This implies, n*(5-3.5)=30. This implies, n*(1.5)=30. This implies, n=30/1.5. This implies n=300/15=20.

Therefore the total number of times in a month the bridge must be crossed is 20(Twenty) so that the total monthly cost without the discount pass is the same as the total monthly cost with the discount pass.
