Answer #1

We Can Use Confidence interval of Paired t test,:

Computational Table:

441 324 Rest Exercise D=Exercise-Rest D^2 16.0 37 21.0 17.0 18.0 15.0 19.0 Total 400 484 576 225 2450

95% Confidence interval:

\bar{d}-t_{\alpha /2, df} * \frac{S_{d}}{\sqrt{n}} \leq \mu _{d} \leq \bar{d}+t_{\alpha /2, df} * \frac{S_{d}}{\sqrt{n}}

Calculation:

\bar{d} = \frac{\sum Di}{n} = \frac{120}{6} = 20

S_{d} = \sqrt{\frac{\sum d^2 - \frac{(\sum d)^2}{n}}{n-1}}= \sqrt{\frac{2450 - \frac{(120)^2}{6}}{6-1}} = 3.16

Degrees of Freedom = n-1 = 6-1 = 5

Critical value:

t_{\alpha ,df} = t_{0.05 ,6-1} = \pm 2.5706           .................using t table

95% Confidence interval:

\bar{d}-t_{\alpha /2, df} * \frac{S_{d}}{\sqrt{n}} \leq \mu _{d} \leq \bar{d}+t_{\alpha /2, df} * \frac{S_{d}}{\sqrt{n}}

20-2.5706 * \frac{3.16}{\sqrt{6}} \leq \mu _{d} \leq 20+2.5706 * \frac{3.16}{\sqrt{6}}

16.68\leq \mu _{d} \leq 23.32

ANSWER: D

(16.68, 23.32)

    Breathing rates for humans can be as low as 4 breaths per minute or as high as 70 or 75 for a person doing strenuous exercise. Suppose that the resting breathing rates for college- age students have a distribution that is mound-shaped, with a mean of 14 and a standard deviation of 2.5 breaths per minute. An experiment on memory was performed, in which 16 subjects were randomly assigned to one of two groups, called "Sentences" or "Intentional". Each subject was given a list of 50 words. Subjects in the "Sentences" group were told to form multiple sentences, each using at least two words from the list, and to keep forming sentences until all the words were used at least once. Subjects in the "Intentional" group were told to spend five minutes memorizing as many of...

    The fitness of 514 adults (aged 25 to 35) were sampled and their heart rates measured immediately after exercise. This sample of adults was found to have a mean of 1427 beats (per 10 minutes) with a standard deviation of 325 beats (per 10 minutes). Construct a two-tailed 95% confidence interval for the true mean heart beat of all such adults. Determine the sample size that would be necessary to obtain an interval with width (at most) 50 for a...
