Expansion of Scope may be defined as deepening and appreciating the processes that are involved in the project, to the next level within the project. It is also the process of tapping new avenues. Expansion of Scope strategies help in the exploration of an existent markets with new products.

Reducing the scope can help to reduce the remaining activities in the project and if the customer agrees, reducing the scope can help to complete the project on time. If you do not reduce the disadvantages to your project scope, your business might fail to create the new product.

When organization resort to pursuing maintenance of scope strategies, the management is often convinced that a past strategy has been appropriate and only some few changes are required to enhance markets of the products or services the organization offers. There rae generally two maintenance of scope strategies:

1) Enhancement- used to better things when an organization is steering towards its vision and goals

2) Status Quo- employed when an organization is in command of acceptable market share since the market has matured.

A well defined scope can help to avoid common problems like:

* Requirements that constantly change

* Requirements that need a rethink mid-project

* The final outcome not being what the client expected

* The budget overrunning

* The project is way behind schedule.
