According to Spector (2012), goal setting theory predicts that people will exert effort toward accomplishing their goals and the job performance is a function of the goals. I can't help but think about an Olympic athlete who set's a goal to win a gold medal. They only get one chance every for years and for some, it may be their only chance. They set a goal and exert that extra effort to reach the podium.

In a minimum of 100 words, In the case of an Olympic athlete, do you feel repeated failure would give them a negative attitude, or motivate them to work even harder to win the gold medal then next time around?

Answer #1

Olympics is the highest medal an athlete can receive. And to get gold or any other medal in the Olympics the athlete has to compete with the best athletes in the world. However, athlete prepares himself to be the best and keeps himself motivated. In this preparation time before the Olympic games, the athlete must have planned his victory for the Olympics. The medal and to make country pride motivates them. But by chance they lost the game, it is really heartbreaking, however, they come up with the lost and for next Olympics they prepare themselves this motivates them . The love for victory motivates them, they want to be the best in that game. But it also depends on the behaviour of the athlete, if he losses the game, it makes him negative or get him in to depression and that lost affects him mentally but not many gets affected from it athletes are strong from mind and body and they overcome the failure and run towards victory by training themselves more and more this keeps them motivated. The repeated failure does not give them negative attitude it gives them motivation to work hard.
