Here the lurking variable is responsible for the nonsense correlation.
Students who perform consistently good in class may not need to study for many hours for the exam, while the last-minute studying students do if they have not performed well for the entire semester. But sometimes last-minute cramming is not enough for a high grade. Hence the lurking variable is current grade in the class.

A correlation tests whether differences exist between two variables. Question 1 options: a) True b) False Question 2 (1 point) You have tested to find whether a relationship exists between hours of sleep the night before an exam and grade on the exam. You have a participant pool of n = 30, df = 28. Your hypothesis is that a significant relationship will exist, where those with more hours of sleep receive higher grades on the exam. This is a...

You are doing a study to determine the impact of time spent studying on exam grades in one of your biology classes. You are comparing exam grades of students that did not study at all, students that studied for 1-5 hours, 6-10 hours, or 10 or more hours. Use this information to answer the following questions. What is your dependent variable? There is only one answer Number of students Time spent studying Exam grades What is the factor being assessed?...
QUESTION 10 Studies suggest that there is a strong correlation between GPA and weekly hours spent studying for high school students. A random sample of 30 high school students produced the following linear regression results for predicting GPA from hours spent studying: Regression Statistics R Square 0.650 Observations 30 Intercept Hours Coefficients 0.976 0.226 Select the correct labels for the variables GPA and hours spent studying in this setting. O Hours spent studying is the response variable and GPA is...
