1.   Please explain what does mean by “whole-brain approach” paradigm that has been used in GIS Cartography map making.

Answer: Ancient cartographers used pen and paper to demonstrate the area that didn't took into account that geometric features are not regular like buildings, land, rivers etc. Earth's surface is full of living geometry.

GIS stands for Geographic Information System.Unlike ancient cartography that used pen and paper to demonstrate the area GIS takes into consideration multiple factors such as location, latitude and longitude, population, location of streams or rivers, types of vegetation, factories, farms, schools, roads etc. Any real life entity can be a contributing factor in generating GIS maps.

GIS using above factors provides deeper insights into the data such as patterns or relationships, and enable users to take smarter decisions.

Now what is the meaning of whole brain approach in GIS map making. Whole brain approach is much like how humans interact. For example if a person is hungry he will look out for restaurants near his location and the possible search on google maps might be "Restaurants" or "burgers" or "pizza" or "nearby restaurants". All of these searches are about what the human is thinking and GIS map is required to give results as per human input.

To make the above search possible the GIS will need to know a lot of factors like that person's location, list of restaurants nearby that location, restaurants that servers burgers or pizzas, which path from person's location will lead to the selected restaurants.

Whole brain approach paradigm is about generating maps in a way how humans perceives the environment around them. How humans interact with each other when discussing about some location. This approach makes maps more humanly interactive. Google maps is the prime example of this.

Whole brain approach in GIS is about making all the factors that humans interact with on daily basis like roads, buildings, pollution, restaurants, the list can go on infinitely count in generating maps.

Because of whole brain approach GIS maps are now implemented in various sectors like Education, Health, Insurance, Manufacturing, Petroleum, Transportation, Government, Military etc.
