Answer #1

Normally a wider seat is an indication of comfort and luxury ( just like business class in airplanes and luxury seat in the theatres ) and often command premium than narrow seat which signify discomfort .

hence instead of making narrower seats of 30 inches against the benchmark of 33 inches , one should rather go with either 33 inches or more (maybe 35 inches ) to bring additional revenues by premium pricing .

The opportunity cost of getting additional revenue by making narrow seats can be easily overcome by wider seats which command premium .
