Answer #1

The manufacture of ammonia is called as Haber's process.

The process was discovered by German chemists fritz Haber and Carl Bosch , on which the name of the process was kept .

The reaction is ,

N2 + 3H2 ---> 2NH3

Delta H = -45.8 KJ / mol

The process combines nitrogen and hydrogen to form ammonia .

Fe/ KOH is used as catalyst and promoter to increase the yield of ammonia .

Though the reaction is exothermic , so favoured on low temperatures , but the product yield is very poor at very low temperatures ,thus catalyst is used.

High pressure of as musc as 200 atm is used .

The equillibrium constant kp for the reaction at 450 degree celcius is given as

kp = [NH3]2 / [N2] [H2]3 = 4.51 x 10-5
