If the tablet containing ferrous fumarate is analyzed for its iron (Fe2+) content using the permanganate titration method, the answer would be too high than it should actually be.

This is because the fumarate ions would also be consuming the permanganate moles in a similar way that Fe2+ ions would be consuming, and we won't be able to differentiate between the two. So we would just see that more moles of permanganate are consumed to reach the end point, and based on this observation we would make a conclusion that equivalently that many moles of Fe2+ must have been present. But this is not true because a portion of the moles of permanganate consumed also comes from consumption by fumarate ions.

So the results in this case would be erraneously high.
