Answer #1

Part A:-

First we need to calculate no.of moles of C7H8 is reacted.

Moles = mass / molar mass

No.of moles of C7H8 = 712 g / 92 g/mol = 7.74 mol

The balanced equation is

C7H8 +3 HNO3 -----> C7H5N3O6 +3 H20

mole ratio between C7H8 to HNo3 is 1:3

No.of moles of HNO3 = 3 × 7.74 = 23.22 mol

Mass of HNO3 = moles × molar mass

Mass of HNO3 = 23.22 mol × 63 g/mol

Mass of HNO3 = 1462.7 grams

Part B:-

Mass of C7H8 = 777 g

Moles of C7H8 = mass / molar mass

Moles of C7H8 = 777 g / 92 g/mol = 8.45 mol

mole ratio between C7H8 to C7H5N3O6 (TNT) is 1:1

Moles of C7H5N3O6 also 8.45 mol

Mass of C7H5N3O6 = moles × molar mass

Mass of C7H5N3O6 = 8.45 mol × 227 g/mol

Mass of C7H5N3O6 (TNT) = 1917.16 grams
