In fluid mechanics, we often present results in a non-dimensional form. In specific energy, the critical depth yc can be used to non-dimensionalize quantities. Create a single figure containing both the E-y curve and M/B-y curve in non-dimensional form. The specific energy diagram will become E/yc vs. y/yc and the momentum function (per unit width) will become M/( yc 2B) vs. y/yc. Note that the y-axis quantities are the same and both E/yc and M/( yc 2B) are plotted on the xaxis (see Fig. 3.9 in the text). WRITE a Matlab FUNCTION to plot the momentum function per unit width for a rectangular channel (for example, [M,y] = MomentumDiagram(q,ymax)). Because the results are non-dimensional, you may select any value for q (e.g., q = 0.5 m3 /s/m). Include a printout of your script and function along with the figure. This figure reinforces the advantage of presenting results in a non-dimensional form.
