Answer #1

speed of sound in water = 1480 m/s

total distance travelled by sound wave = 2d

distance = speed* time

2d = 1480*1.22

d = 451.4 m

    7,a,b,c,d please 7. 0.41 points Tipler8 2.P057 My Notes Ask Your Teacher A submarine can use sonar (sound traveling through water) to determine its distance from other objects. The time between the emission of a sound pulse (a "ping") and the detection of its echo can be used to determine such distances. Alternatively, by measuring the time between successive echo receptions of a regularly timed set of pings, the submarine's speed may be determined by comparing the time between pings....

    I have everything but E Submarine A travels horizontally at 13.0 m/s through ocean water. It emits a sonar signal of frequency f = 5.22 103 Hz. in the forward direction. Submarine B is in front of submarine A and traveling at 4.5 m/s relative to the water in the same direction as submarine A. A crewman in submarine B uses his equipment to detect the sound waves ("pings") from submarine A. We wish to determine what is heard by...

    A rescue plane flies horizontally at a constant speed searching for a disabled boat. When the plane is directly above the boat, the boat's crew blows a loud horn. By the time the plane's sound detector perceives the horn's sound, the plane has traveled a distance equal to two-thirds its altitude above the ocean. (a) If it takes the sound 2.10 s to reach the plane, determine the speed of the plane. Take the speed of sound to be 343...

    An ultrasonic tape measure uses frequencies above 20 MHz to determine dimensions of structures such as buildings. It does so by emitting a pulse of ultrasound into air and then measuring the time interval for an echo to return from a reflecting surface whose distance away is to be measured. The distance is displayed as a digital read-out. A tape measure emits a pulse of ultrasound with a frequency of 24.0 MHz. (a) What is the distance to an object...
