In this Application, create a structural model that depicts the system’s interactions with the students in the WestEast College case. Perform the following steps:

  • Identify the classes implied by the case.
  • For each class, create a CRC card that includes appropriate attributes such as the student’s ID number, name, address, and phone number.
  • Explain and justify your choices.
  • Briefly explain the relationship between your structural model and your functional model.

WestEast College Case

WestEast College hires you as a systems analyst to design its new admission/registration system.

WestEast College is one of the top ranked schools in the United States. It is a small private college with nearly 3,000 students, 100 faculty, and 50 supporting staff (including 10 full-time and four part-time IT staff who are responsible for supporting all academic and operational IT needs).

The college accepts new and transfer students from other colleges and countries. The college only accepts online applications.

Once prospective students have completed and submitted their application and the college receives it, they submit additional documentation such as transcripts, recommendation letters, a personal essay, residency information, proof of language proficiency, and financial aid documents.

Once students are accepted, they take a placement test for math and English. If students pass the required tests, they are assigned general education classes (such as math, English, and social studies). If they do not pass a subject, they are assigned intensive classes in the failing subject.

Students progress through four years of classes and must maintain a 2.00 GPA or they are placed on probation for 2 quarters. If they drop below 2.00, students are dismissed. They must score at least a C to move to the next class or they must repeat the class (a D is not an acceptable grade).

Students must finish their degrees in no more than 5 years and cannot switch majors more than twice.

Students eligible for graduation must pass an assessment test in their major before they may graduate.

Answer #1

We investigated the relationship between structural network properties and both synchronization strength and functional characteristics in a combined neural mass and graph theoretical model of the electroencephalogram (EEG). Thirty-two neural mass models (NMMs), each representing the lump activity of reasonably large groups of interacting excitatory and inhibitory neurons, were reciprocally and excitatory coupled using random rewiring as described by Watts and Strogatz. Numerical analysis of the network revealed an abrupt transition towards a synchronized state as a function of increasing coupling strength alpha. Synchronization increased with increasing degree and decreasing regularity of the network. Parameters of the functional network showed a diverse dependency on structural connectivity: normalized clustering coefficient gamma and path length lambda increased with increasing alpha. For sufficiently large alpha, however, gamma decreased with increasing rewiring probability p, while lambda increased. Hence, a structured functional network exists despite the randomness of the underlying structural network. That is, patterns of functional connectivity are influenced by patterns of the corresponding structural level but do not necessarily agree with those.

At the start of each year, a list of subjects a college plans to offer is produced for students. Every semester, students at the college check the subjects available, enroll in subjects offered and register for a class in each subject they enroll in. Students get an enrolment confirmation after they have enrolled for their subjects. The schedule of classes available for each subject is supplied by the teacher who coordinates the subject and the class schedule is created by...

The Hudson Engineering Group (HEG) has contacted you to create a conceptual model whose application will meet the expected database requirements for the company’s training program. The HEG administrator gives you the description (see below) of the training group’s operating environment. (Hint: Some of the following sentences identify the volume of data rather than cardinalities. Can you tell me which ones?) The HEG has 12 instructors and can handle up to 30 trainees per class. In this phase of the project you will create an ERD based upon the following requirements and business rules. Limit your ERD to entities and relationships based on the business rules showed here. In other words, do not add realism to your design by expanding or refining the business rules. However, make sure you include all attributes needed that would permit the model to be successfully implemented, including all primary and foreign keys. 1. Trinity College (TC) is divided into...

The case study is about the analysis of the students’ understanding in analyzing a given scenario and practical skills to apply concepts and build diagrams studied in IT242 (Software Engineering). The case study consists of five parts. Students are required to answer all these parts based on the below scenario. The SEU has adopted a blending approach to electronic learning, requiring learners to attend class lectures (25%), while 75% of course time is assigned to virtual classes, learning forums and...
