A photocapacitor array is proposed for use in a high-speed, ‘night vision’, digital-video capture system. The brightness of the scene and the capabilities of the read-out electronics demand that the photocapacitors have a minimum sensitivity of 0.02 C W−1. Calculate the maximum image capture rate possible (in frames per second) for such a device under the following conditions:

wavelength of incoming light: 1.2 µm

quantum efficiency, η: 0.7

Answer #1

Minimum sensitivity of photocapacitor=0.002C/w.

Wavelength of incoming light=1.2um.

quantum efficiency==0.7

Maximum image capture rate=(0.02/1.2*10-6)=106(0.7)(0.02)/1.2=11600 frames per second.
