You have to present three thoughtful responses to what other students wrote to the two questions below. You should not say I agree or not agree only. You have to explain your response. You have up to 100 words for each response.

1. What are the most three important things you have learned from the paper. Please explain.

2. As a CIO of a healthcare provider (e.g., Henry Ford Health System, Bauman), how would you use the digital technologies. Please explain.

The three responses from other students I chose are below. Please reply to each of them and number them accordingly so I know which response was made to each one.

1. The three most important things that I have learned from reading this paper are three external transformations that describes how digital technologies are changing the market, three internal transformations that describes how digital technologies have altered the models and tools, and nine building blocks of every business. First, the external transformations which are from atoms to bits, from places to spaces, and from products to services, these factors have taken digital transformation to next level that includes visibility in workplace, at the mall, and on the train etc. On the other hand, internal transformations are sustainable competitive advantage to transient, disruptive innovation to killer innovation, and business to digital business, these factors describe how digital models have altered models and tools we use for strategy and business model. Lastly, one of the key concepts discussed in the paper was nine building blocks which consists of customer segments, value proposition, channels, customer relationships, revenue streams, key resources, key activities, key partnerships, and cost structure. Furthermore, as mentioned by the writers companies must use these components to revisit and evaluate their business model in order to have efficient digital transformation within the organization.

2. As a CIO of a healthcare provider, I would utilize digital technology by incorporating six key components, have a strategic vision of how technologies transform the business and know how to implement that vision, become relentless innovator, focus on driving growth of my organization, make sure company understand my vision, move forward toward looking beyond operations and infrastructure, and be a courageous risk taker. By having these goals and implementing them properly will ensure that I am guiding my organization toward stable digital technologies platform that creates positive culture and understanding. I will implement software applications that includes advance digital technologies, which are appealing and provides accurate results of different medical procedures. My strategy is to utilize advanced digital technologies to perform variety of medical procedure such CT Scan, ultrasound, and MRI. Furthermore, I will be refocusing on implementing strong platform of digital technology, reshape skills within my organization, goal-oriented mindset, and creative approach to ensure that we embrace digital technologies. I believe with implementation of digital technologies; it will benefit my organization significantly and provide accurate results.

1. The three most important topics I have learned include digitalization, Porter’s Five Forces, and value proposition. With physical products and services evolving into digital services, it is important for every industry, both slow and fast-paced, to transform themselves using the six digital transformations so that they offer the ideal digital services that support their objective while staying competitive to maintain the edge in their industry. Coming to Porter’s Five Forces, I have always used these forces when I approached a case study as I assumed it provided an accurate assessment of the business and industry at hand. However, with the drastic change from physical to digital marketplaces, these forces cannot accurately analyze the competitive position as they do not pertain to the dynamic nature of the business world today. There has been a shift from sustainable competitive advantage to a more transient one where the focus is on short-term advantages and strategy making. Finally, the emphasis on value proposition in the paper establishes that a company must truly understand what products and services they want to offer their segment to ensure that the digital services they implement complement these services. Without establishing this, they cannot introduce effective digital technology.

2. As a CIO of a healthcare provider, my objective would be to ensure that each patient’s medical history is interconnected across specialties and organizations. By developing an information system that is connected via cloud computing, a patient’s medical history and an accurate picture of their health ecosystem can be thoroughly studied by various medical practitioners to ensure that nothing is overlooked when caring for a patient. In addition, many individuals receive medical bills via mail from a variety of different healthcare providers that they have visited that often leads to missed payments if the mail gets misplaced. Hence, I would introduce a mobile app with a billing portal that would be connected with the patient’s information and their health ecosystem so that the hassle of paper mail is eliminated and customers can make instant payments via their portal. The mobile app will allow customers to make appointments with providers in their insurance policy as the information will already be in their system. My goal is to utilize cloud computing to allow for interoperability for all individuals in the healthcare industry and to offer a mobile app that makes the healthcare process efficient and reliable for customers and healthcare personnel.

1. One of the most important things I learned from this paper is that if a company cannot recognize and react to a digital disruption, that company could quickly find itself obsolete. Companies like Borders and Blockbuster did not recognize the emerging digital strategies of their competitors as the future of their industry and fell too far behind to recover. The next important thing I learned from the article is that a major focus for businesses is shifting from products to services. Companies are more focused on building longer relationships with customers than performing short-term transactions with the customer. The third thing I learned from the article is that digital technologies are transitioning business from a physical landscape to a digital landscape. This is obvious when you think of it in terms of retail, but I had not considered the fact that even the landscape of education is becoming more and more digital, as evidenced by the existence of classes such as this. This broadens the availability of education to a lot more people than the physical class model does.

2. As a CIO of a healthcare provider, the first way I would utilize digital technologies is to keep patient records in a digital database, that only the patient and the patient's doctors have access to. This makes it easier for the patient to visit specialists within my company's umbrella. The specialists can have full access to their medical records ahead of time and the patient and patient's primary care physician will be able to access test results in real time. The next thing I would use digital technologies for is to introduce a digital scheduling system, for patients to make appointments with the doctors they want to go to. Doctors can enter vacation days into the system, so the system knows what days the doctor will be available. That way patients are not scheduling visits on days when nobody will be there. This will also allow patients to book another doctor, if their main doctor is busy and the need is more urgent than a standard visit.

The author's response to the questions asked are providing a vivid expression of his or her understanding about the course material and concepts. By reflecting on internal and external transformations and the building blocks of business organization, the student efficiently clarifies the concept through examples and practical situations such as mentioning the external transformation through using the reference of malls, workplaces, public places etc.

The response gives good references to the latest changes that have been possible through digital technologies which also align with the paper and concepts through which we came across. But the response is not clear enough regarding how the traditional models have transit and replaced with the new one with the digital tools and techniques. In my opinion the student has answered the other question with a strong viewpoint about how she or he is going to utilise the digital technology by incorporating six key components which gave also been explained well in the body.

Thr student has uses a more practical approach and has provided the answer following a step by step process and prioritising the most significant lesson learnt by putting it at first. It is quite interesting to hear what perception the student holds regarding the digital disruption and I totally agree with his thoughts. The real life examples uses by her or him are effective. But the student has not provided enough details that a rader would have liked to know. I agree with the students response to the second question which reflects on the significance of privacy and confidentiality of the patients data and records. The student has chosen a wise topic and its very impressive to read about the thoughts of how she/he is going to lead it.
