You wish to quantify the association between a history of parental smoking and the occurrence of asthma within a group of children in a local borough. Both parental smoking and the diagnosis of asthma have been diagnosed from the GP case records within 3 local practices. Only households with children are surveyed, and for the sake of simplicity, each family unit counts as one case (e.g. if only one parent smokes, this is classed as family smoking +ve, and only the eldest child from each household is surveyed, to avoid duplication within families). This is Observational Case control study because in this study, two groups are defined: one with a history of parental smoking and another one without a history of parental smoking and researcher tries to find whether there is statistically significance difference in occurrence of asthma within a group of children with and without a history of parental smoking .
