Political campaigns involve large sums of money that come from a variety of sources -- the candidates, donors, interest groups, political parties. Some scholars have called for a switch to publicly-funded elections, in which the only money that candidates could use to campaign would be a pre-determined dollar amount (the same for each candidate in that race) paid for by taxpayer revenue. What do you think of the idea of publicly-funded elections -- would this helpful or harmful to American democracy?

Answer #1

Such a practice would be helpful to the American democracy as it would give an equal and level playing field to all the candidates and show every party's true colors and efforts with limited funding. They cannot obtain illegal campaign money from businesses who also show this money as donations for tax evasion. This would give a double advantage to the American democracy as tax evasions would reduce and all parties would compete on the same field.
