the bond order for an ion with this configuration. (σ2s)2(σ2s*)2(σ2px)2(π2py, π2pz)4(π2py*, π2pz*)1

since we know that,

bond order = ( electrons in bonding - electrons in antibonding) / 2

electrons in bonding = 8

electrons in antibonding = 3

bond order = (8 - 3 ) / 2

bond order = 5/2

bond order = 2.5
